Embryo Development to 5 Day Blastocyst
Day 0: The sperm enters the egg to fertilize them.
Day 1: Eggs that fertilize show 2 pronuclei in the center of the egg.
Day 2: The cells have divided and are embryos are now between 2-4 cells.
Day 3: Cells have continued dividing and are between 6-8 cells using maternal DNA. Paternal DNA kicks in and impacts development
Day 4: The embryo is in "morula" stage and has more than 10 cells that have begun to compact and fuse together.
Day 5/6: The compacting cells of the morula begin to form into a "Blastocyst" with an outer circle called the Trophectoderm and an Inner Cell Mass.
